Nepal and Mauritius sign MoU on labor pact

Kathmandu / June 11: Nepal has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with African country Republic of Mauritius on a labor agreement on Tuesday. The MoU was signed in Geneva on the sidelines of ILO centenary celebrations. Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista and Mauritian Minister for Labor, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training Soodesh Satkam Callichurn signed the MoU.

According to the MoU, Nepali foreign job seekers will get opportunities in hotel and manufacturing sector in Mauritius. Likewise, as for the MoU, both Nepal and Mauritius will deploy the workers in accordance with the principles of transparency, ethical recruitment, fairness and mutuality of benefits.

Similarly, all costs and fees shall be borne by the employer including fees paid to the recruitment agencies in Nepal. The government of Mauritius ensures that the costs to be incurred including but not limited to, travel expenses, insurance, medical expenses, work permit/ labor card fees, service fees paid to the Nepali recruitment agency and other processes related to the recruitment of the worker in Mauritius will be borne by the employer.

Both the countries will control and regulate costs related to the recruitment and employment of the worker and take effective legal measures when workers are charged beyond what is legally stipulated by the parties among others.
