Jolie, Pitt reportedly adopting a Syrian refugee
Syria: The enviably perfect family of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt is reportedly set to add a new member soon. Jolie and Pitt are claimed to be in the final stages of the adoption process, following an emotional meeting with Syrian brothers whose father was kidnapped by local soldiers and mother was killed in what is being described as a “bombing incident.” The recently married couple currently have six children together, with the esteemed literary journal Daily Mail reporting that Jolie was initially interested in adopting all three brothers but was ultimately convinced otherwise by Pitt.
Syria has been embroiled in its current state of tragedy since at least 2011, with the United Nations’ Refugee Agency estimating that more than four million people have fled to neighboring countries. The ongoing violence was spurred by the death of four protestors at the hands of local army personnel, following the widespread criticism of the arrest and apparent torture of 15 children after being caught writing anti-government graffiti. The very next day, army members reportedly shot at mourners and killed one person during the previous victims’ funeral services.
Both Pitt and Jolie are known for their activism, with Jolie bringing a spotlight to many issues of importance through her role as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
