Conflict-victimised army men get scooter

Kathmandu / September 29: A total of 21 sitting and retired army men injured during a decade-long Maoist conflict, have been provided with four-wheel scooters.

The Army Welfare Directorate (AWD) came to their rescue by providing the scooters. Chief of the Army Staffs Rajendra Chhetri handed over keys of the scooters to the army men amid a programme organised by the AWD in the capital.

The beneficiaries cannot move their body parts below waists after sustaining injuries during the conflict. Over 17 thousand people lost their lives and thousands other injured during the period of armed insurgency. Maoist joined political mainstream in 2006.

Various organizations have been supporting former injured combatants and former security personnel by providing different mobility aids and also various skills for engaging in income generating activities. Nepal army and Nepal police have been doing their best to provide support to the families of security personnel killed during the conflict and injured security personnel. (RSS)
