President calls for election of new PM within a week: Koirala calls India to clear transit points

Koirala at parliamentKathmandu / October 2: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has called upon the political parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament to hold, within seven days, the election of the Prime Minister on the basis of political consensus and to constitute a Council of Ministers under his/her chairmanship.

The President made this call in accordance with Article 298 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Office of the President stated in a communique today

Meanwhile addressing the transformed Legislature Parliament session today, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged the Government of India to allow Nepal to exercise its transit rights and privileges as a landlocked country.

Prime Minister Koirala also urged the Indian government to not create any kind of delay in the border points. “I heartily request the Indian government to not create any kind of delay at the border points so as to allow Nepal enjoy its transit rights and privileges,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing agitation in the Tarai-Madhesh, the Prime Minister urged all to exercise caution to ensure that the agitation does not disturb social harmony and inflict damage to the country’s capability and international relations.

The country has arrived at a very adverse and difficult point as a result of the agitation taking place in the Tarai-Madhesh, he said. “The border points have been closed and obstructed to impact out entire imports.”

As a result, the Nepali people have faced scarcity of daily essentials. The future of students has been affected. Industry and trade seriously hurt. Farmers and labourers’ life is getting worse. Hospital and medical service is deteriorating by the day while the publication and broadcasting services of the media have been affected.

“I hereby appeal to the agitating parties to withdraw the current form of agitation that has affected our overall supply chain, people’s life and livelihood and the overall economy,” he said. RSS
