Kathmandu / October 3: The Bagmati Clean-up Campaign on Saturday collected 15 metric tons of garbage from the areas surrounding the river bank of Balkhu in the capital city today.

The participants cleaned up shards of glasses, plastic and sacks from the banks of the Bagmati River while the campaign launched by High Power Committee for Integrated Bagmati Civilization reached its 125th week.

The Campaign was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi. He said the Bagmati River was inseparably connected with the human civilization and that the campaign played an important role in its conservation.

Former Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal said the river’s countenance had changed due to the support from all sectors. He stressed the need to continue cleanup campaign. The campaign was participated by civil servants, representatives of various organizations, security personnel, campaigners and locals.

Former Chief Secretary Puudyal has initiated the campaign, which has been able to clean the holy bagmati river, which was earlier considered as mini garbage dumping site. The number of participants involved in the campaign are increasing gradually. RSS
