UML seeks support from NC and RPP Nepal to form government

UML party officeKathmandu / October 8: The CPN (UML) has formally written to the Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to help form the new government under the leadership of UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

Meeting the Prime Minister in Baluwatar on Thursday, the UML leaders handed over a letter to the NC leadership seeking the latter’s support.

Earlier, the UML standing committee meeting had picked party Chairman Oli as the PM candidate. After the meeting, Oli said that request was made to give continuity to the unity, coordination and goodwill among the major three political parties that was exhibited during the constitution promulgation.

In response, the PM said that he was ready to support as per the gentlemen agreement but official response would be made from the NC after the decision of the central working committee meeting.

Talking to journalists, PM Koirala said that he was positive for formation of unity government and was mindful of the past agreements adding that decision on party’s support would be finalised after the central committee meeting’s institutional decision.

The deadline given by the President for formation of unity government expired today and the leaders have been reiterating that they will try to find broader consensus even if the country enter into the majority process.

Meanwhile, the CPN (UML) has proposed the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal to support the party in the formation of a new government.

An UML delegation including party chairman KP Sharma Oli reached the RPP Nepal central office Dhumbarahi to have a meeting with RPP Nepal chair Kamal Thapa and other party office-bearers. Responding to the UML’s call positively, the RPP Nepal Chair extended best wishes to UML Chair for his success in leading a new government.

The UML delegation was told that the RPP Nepal would take a formal decision regarding the former’s proposal through a central committee meeting soon, according to RPP Nepal central committee member Rajaram Bartaula.

UML senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice Chair Bidhya Devi Bhandari, and Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, RPP Nepal Vice Chairs Tanka Dhakal and Dhawal Shamser Rana were also present in the meeting. RSS
