India and China welcome Oli’s appointment: Koirala pledges full support to Oli

map of India and ChinaKathmandu, Oct 11: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Chairman of the CPN-UML and its parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli for being elected as the Prime Minister of Nepal.

Indian PM Modi made a telephone call and congratulated leader Oli, expressing his best wishes and invited the latter to visit India, said UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali to the National News Agency (RSS). During the conversation, the two discussed the strengthening of Nepal-India relations and making the SAARC more dynamic. However it is yet to see whether India will ease the undeclared blockade with the appointment of Oli or not. It is said that India is not happy to Oli and was attempting to block his appointment to the top post of executive.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Wu Chuntai, reached the party office of UML at Dhumbarahi and congratulated leader Oli for becoming the new PM.

During a party organized by the UML to welcome its Chairman as the new Prime Minister, the party leaders, parliamentarians, cadres and well wishers congratulated and extended best wishes to leader Oli.

On the occasion, party general secretary Ishwor Pokhrel said the entire country be united under Prime Minister Oli and work for the country’s welfare.

Similarly, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said he would provide full support to the newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Exiting from the CA building after the election of the new prime minister at the Legislature-Parliament, former Prime Minister and NC President Koirala said his defeat in the PM’s election was a democratic practice.

“I’ve faced many political ups and downs, so the victory and defeat in the multiparty democracy is normal,” he said. Similarly, he said he was proud of the exercise of his participation in the PM’s election as per the democratic system. In a question on what would be his party’s role in the changed context, he, who is also the parliamentary party leader of the NC, said the party will discuss on it and the agitation in Madhes needs to come to an end. NC President and the former PM Koirala had contested with UML Chairman Oli for the next PM but was defeated. Oli became the new PM with 338 votes while Koirala got 249. RSS
