DPM Thapa to lead high level delegation to New Delhi on Saturday

Kamal ThapaKathmandu / October 15: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa will be leading a high level delegation to Indian capital of New Delhi on Saturday to hold talks on ending the obstruction of essential supplies at the Nepal-India border.

The delegation during a three-day visit will hold talks with Indian Secretary of External Affairs and top ranking government officials relating on problem seen in the transportation of essential supplies between the two countries.

At a press conference held at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, DPM Thapa said he would hold talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to end the obstruction of import including fuel from India to Nepal.

He added that the visit would contribute to harmonizing the relations between the two countries while expressing belief of succeeding in ending the difficulty seen in trade and transportation.

“The visit will be fruitful in improving the relations with our neighbour India and I am confident India will support in ending the problems in customs point,” Thapa said.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has insisted on exercising diplomacy to lift unofficial blockade imposed by India on Nepal. Taking part in an interaction programme organised by Sambad Nepal Thursday, he was of the view of making necessary amendments to the constitution to address the voices of Madhesi, Tharus and Magars.

He further stressed the need of taking country towards economic progress to reduce foreign dependency. Leader Bhattarai who recently announced his isolation from the UCPN (Maoist) said he had realised the formation of a new political force some two years back as the UCPN (M) running with old mind-set could not contribute to build a new Nepal.

The promulgation of the constitution from the Constituent Assembly (CA) was itself a historic and revolutionary deed, but it has failed to incorporate the sentiments of all and needed to be amended, he added. RSS
