Fulpati being celebrated today
Kathmandu / October 20: Hindu Nepalis has been celebrating Fulpati– the seventh day of the 15-day long Dashain festival today by offering prayers in the temples of goddess Durga across the country.
Though Fulpati is marked on the seventh day of Dashain festival, it has fallen on the eight day this year according to the lunar calendar.
Traditionally, on this day, banana stalks, jamara, belpatra (leaves of wood apple) and sugarcane sticks tied with red cloth along with Kalash filled with holy water is brought to Hanumandhoka from Gorkha district on a decorated palanquin.
On this occasion, the Nepal Army organises a parade at Tundikhel that includes gun firing, which is observed by the President and government officials every year.
Nepal Army will be presenting a parade at Tundikhel in the capital today. All government offices will remain closed for five days from Fulpati to Dwadashi (second day after Tika).
Senior offers Tika and Jamara wishing good health and prosperity on the tenth day of the 15-day long festival. People usually gather to their house from different parts of the country or even from abroad to celebrate the festival. This is the biggest festival of Hindus.
