Curfew lifted for two and half hours in Birgunj

Birgunj / November 4: The District Administration Office, Parsa, has lifted the curfew order imposed in Birgunj city till 11:00 am today.

With the latest decision of the administration, normal activities have gone up in the city area. Chief District Officer, Keshav Raj Ghimire, said that the curfew order would continue after 11:00 am until next notice.

The administration had clamped an indefinite curfew in Birgunj from 3:00 pm on Monday after the situation turned tensed following the clashes between the cadres of the agitating Madhes-centric political parties and police.

One Indian agitator killed and some Indians arrested on Monday while they were attacking police personnel. Monday morning police opened the blockade put by agitators and allowed all Indian vehicles stranded in Birgunj but when it was the turn of Nepali vehicles crossing the border some people came from Indian side blocked the road and clashed with police.

The border of Birgunj remain obstructed for more than two months by the agitators, which has created shortage of essential goods and also taking heavy toll in the national economy. RSS
