NHRC draws attention on emerging humanitarian crisis

NHRCKathmandu / November 08: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday drew the attention of the government, the agitating sides and the international community on the impending humanitarian crisis and severe impact on human rights.

In a report on Human Rights Scenario, NHRC has underlined the consequential humanitarian crisis of the obstruction at Nepal-India border and the direct impact on human rights, children’s rights, health, education, the economic, social and cultural rights, right to profession and business as well as food and women’s rights.

The Commission has apprised the Human Rights organization’s Asia Pacific Regional Forum, International Coordination Committee and United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) of the Nepal human rights scenario.

NHRC has also highlighted the serious impact on exercise of Nepal’s Constitution and various international conventions on human rights, and rights insured by international instruments to which Nepal is a partner, due to the emerging humanitarian crisis in the country.

The Commission has drawn the attention of the government, agitating parties in Tarai-Madhes, the international community and all concerned stakeholders to address the impact, it is mentioned in a statement issued by NHRC Acting Secretary, Ved Prasad Bhattarai. RSS
