Women working in dance bars, restaurants and massage parlours willing to change profession

Nepali DanceKathmandu / November 10: Women working in massage parlours, dance bars and dohori sanjh restaurants have said that they want to change their profession if the State guaranteed basic needs of their children.

At an interaction organised by the Rashya Nepal on Tuesday, the participating women working in the profession urged the state to offer them alternatives for their livelihood as they are looked down by the society and the police personnel also gave trouble asking for money threatening.

Parbati Thapa, who works at a dance bar, said that police often asked for money from them, charging them of involvement in flesh trade.

“Why the government has given permission to open dance bar if we are defamed and insulted while dancing in these bars for a living. Where should we work instead of hotels and restaurants and how can we fulfill basic needs of our children,” she questioned.

Similarly, Chief at the Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Branch, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sarbendranath Khanal, said that police have now improved their behaviour towards these women.

He further said that this sector should be made dignified by making undisciplined activities of this sector systematic.

Rashya Nepal Chair Menaka Thapa demanded to stop giving trouble to those involved in this sector immediately. RSS
