Inmates engaged in income-generating activities

inmatesMorang / November 16: The inmates at the Morang Prison here are involved in producing incense sticks and the Nepali dhaka cloth as a means of income.

According to the Prison Administration, provision for handlooms has been made inside the prison with the objective of assisting the inmates. There are 125 handlooms for as many inmates who weave the dhaka cloth for making the typical Nepali dhaka caps. The traders from Morang and Sunsari districts purchase these caps produced by the inmates. Each such cap is sold from Rs 150 to Rs 500 in the local market, it is stated.

Earlier, 100 inmates were engaged in making incense sticks. Now they have been involved in weaving the dhaka cloth using handloom due to the unavailability of raw materials for making incense sticks.

There are more than 600 inmates in Morang Prison at present as against its capacity to accommodate only 350 people. RSS
