Two women activists feted with N-PEACE Award

N Peace AwardKathmandu / November 18: Sharmeela Thapa who has been active in advocating for the single women’s right to property for the past five years has been honoured with this year’s N-PEACE award.

Speaking at a press conference organized here today by Nepal Journalists Forum, Thapa, also the chairperson of Samida Women Development Forum, shared that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on October 23 granted the encouragement award appreciating her continued works for women rights.

Chairperson Thapa said that she had ventured to work on women rights issue narrating her own bitter experience of surviving a single life after her husband left her following the birth of a son.

Presently the Forum has provided support to 286 single women in developing their skills in manufacturing paper flower, sewing and cutting and weaving to orient them to self-reliance.

Another social activist Kaushila Chaudhary who has been continuously working for peace and equality has been felicitated with the same award this year. RSS
