How did bottle of BEER land this man his dream job?

BottleNovember 20: This man landed his dream by sending his prospective employers a bottle of beer as proof of his credentials. Passionate home brewer Liam Tutty, who works in digital media, never imagined he would be able to combine his job with his hobby.

However, when he saw the Rye River Brewing Company were poised for a massive expansion he decided there must a place for his skills.

To show his enthusiasm and ability the 32-year-old, from Ireland, recreated a bottle of one of the firm’s most iconic brands – McGargles – but bearing a cartoon of his own face and the words – Liam wants a job… and a reason to go to a brewery every day. It also has a web address which linked to a beer-themed page showcasing his experience.

He then filled the bottle with home brew and sent it off to the man he hoped would be his new boss Niall Phelan. Liam said: “My job wasn’t advertised but when I read about the expansion I felt sure they would have a place for me.

“I also thought i f they didn’t the beer might stay in their mind and if a post come up at some point in the future they might think ‘who was that lunatic who sent us beer’. “I was proud of the product but nervous as i thought the person would either laugh or I would be written off as the madman of the brewing community.

“But like my wife said if he doesn’t laugh he’s probably not the kind of person you want to work for – but he did. “I think the package was attention grabbing too as Niall said his first thought was ‘why has someone sent me a pipe bomb.”He will start his new job in the offices in Kilcock on December 14 but says while his brewing knowledge will help him understand the product he will probably be pestering brewers for their expert tips.

He said as a huge bonus the job will take him back the area where all his family now live. Liam added: “I am going to be like a child in a sweet shop… at 32. I cannot believe I will be getting to be around beer every day.” He said as an extra thrill his new employers have not yet cracked open his CV as they want to share it with the brewers.

He said: “I’m a bit nervous its a bit like you’ve cooked someone dinner and they say ‘okay I’m going to give this to Jamie Oliver’. “But how many home brewers get to have their stuff sampled by the professionals – I’ve had enough of it to know it won’t poison them.” Ireland most famous black tipple hit the news recently after making a historic change.
