Sociologists point out need to formulate guidelines to address challenges implementing federalism

nepal-constitutionKathmandu, Nov 21: Sociologists have underscored the need for formulating clear guidelines to tackle possible challenges on social harmony in course of implementing federalism and democracy. They said that sociologists should play a guiding role in institutionlising the federalism and democracy of the country.

They were speaking at an event on ‘Sociology, Present and Future’ organised by the Central Sociology Department of Tribhuvan University (TU) and sociology MPhil programme in the Capital today.

Speaking at the event, Dr Guna Nidhi Neupane, rector at the TU, who inaugurated the event, viewed that sociologists should act as guide towards making the society self-reliant and independent.

Likewise, Dean at TU’s sociology faculty, Sharad Chandra Thakur said that suggestions and responsibility of sociologists would be for the welfare of the country at a time when the country has been federated.

Around 150 sociologists across the country attended the event. Meanwhile, discussions are underway on various 18 reports presented by Sharada Khatiwada, who recently completed his MPhil programme.

The reports focus on globalisation and development, world social situation, gender equality, politic, disciplined education, health, ethnicity and protest among others. RSS
