Nepalis demonstrate in front of the White House against India’s border blockade

US protestUSA / November 23: Various United States-based organizations of Nepali disapora have demonstrated against India’s border blockade in front of the White House in Washington D.C. yesterday.

More than 4,000 Nepalis participated in the protest programme which, according to the organizers, is the biggest ever demonstration staged by Nepalis in the US.

The demonstrations which started at 11:00 am local time on Sunday and went through until 3:00 pm, articulated that India had imposed an economic embargo on Nepal citing the security concerns following the agitation in Tarai.

The demonstrations also meant to get the message across that India breached the United Nations Charter and Treaty on Transit by imposing the embargo, the organizers said.

Earlier, a group of demonstrators had marched a rally from the White House to the Indian Embassy in the American capital city of Washington DC.

According to the Association of Nepalese in America (AAN), it is likely to submit a memorandum to the American President Barack Obama.

The Association, in a bid to draw the US government’s attention towards the India’s border blockade, previously had submitted a memo to the US Senators and later had recited the Senators’ reply in the Nepalese rally.

AAN and NRN America among other organisations are the leading organizations of Nepalis disapora in the USA. RSS
