UDMF leaders urge NHRC to bring truth to the public
Kathmandiu / November 24: Leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), in discussions with the office-bearers of the National Human Rights Commission on Monday, said that acts of arson attacks and vandalism on ambulances and vehicle carrying medicines in course of the agitation was not carried out by their cadres, and urged the commission to bring truth behind these incidents to public notice after investigation.
The UDMF leaders stated that police oppression has increased in the peaceful movement and drew the attention to the possibility of disturbance in the social harmony if the problem were not resolved promptly. They also charged that the government has not taken their demands seriously and resolution of the problem was delayed as it has been calling them to talks without any agenda.
UDMF leader Laxman Lal Karna underlined the need for seeking a solution to the problem by immediately calling them to meaningful talks.
NHRC chairman Anup Raj Sharma said no law allows the police to shoot at the protesters in the chest and in the head and reminded the security personnel to use the authority granted them by the Local Administration Act. He said the NHRC has taken seriously the incidents that have taken place in different districts and drew the government’s attention to seek solution to the problem by holding meaningful talks. RSS
