OHCHR urges India to immediately end obstructions of essential supplies to Nepal

ohchr_logoKathmandu / November 25: The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the human right body of the United Nation (UN), has urged India for immediate end to the ongoing obstruction of essential supplies to Nepal.

Referring to the report of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal, the OHCHR has urged the political parties of Nepal to ensure smooth supply of essentials and services.

Any obstruction of essential supplies and services is a serious violation of international human rights law; OHCHR has stated issuing a release on Tuesday.

The OHCHR has urged the government and the agitating Madhesi parties to engage in a meaningful dialogue.

In the statement, OHCHR Spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani has also expressed her serious concern over the killing of at least 50 people during protests in the Terai and the deteriorating situation of the region.

Likewise, Shamdasani has also emphasized on the need for an independent investigation over the recent violence in the Tarai. RSS
