Nepal-India local authorities agree to manage border

Nepal and India flagMorang / November 30: Local authorities of Nepal and India have formed a joint team to carry out a field study of Nepal-India border in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts and fix any problems.

A meeting of local senior officials of Nepal and India held at Biratnagar on Monday has decided to form and mobilize a 30-member joint panel with 15 from each side to make on-site study of border area in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari of Nepal and Kisangunj, Arariya and Supaul districts of Indian Bihar state, said Morang Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Raj Karki.

According to CDO Karki, the panel would reconstruct the border pillars, search for the missing poles, evacuate the no-man’s land and draw a new map after undertaking study on the border.

The bilateral meeting agreed to complete border management works within six months, said Arariya District DA Himanshu Sharma.

The Nepali team comprises Morang CDO Karki, Sunsari CDO Rabi Lal Pant, Jhapa CDO Tej Prasad Pokharel and officials from National Investigation and Office of Survey. Likewise, the Indian team includes DM Sharma of Arariya of Bihar State, DMM of Supaul District Ram Chandra Du, DM of Kisangunj district Ramji Shah, Arariya Police Chief Sudhir Kumar Porakiya and Chief Engineer P Das.
