Trilateral meeting ends on positive note, decisive talks to take place on Wednesday

Kathmandu / November 30: The trilateral meeting held here today among the ruling parties, main opposition Nepali Congress and agitating Madhes-centric political parties has headed in the positive direction.

The leaders of CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N), Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik), Unified Democratic Madhesi Forum and chief opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) attending the meeting said that the meeting has reached a decision to call for a decisive meeting on Wednesday.

The next meeting will deliberate on the 11-point demands put forth by the disgruntled parties, according to NC President Sushil Koirala.

Various Madhes-centric political parties are waging agitation in many districts in southern plain due to displeasure with the states’ delineation and representation in parliament and public offices.

Emerging from the meeting, CPN (UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the leaders attending the meeting were serious towards the issues of Madhes.

Nepal, also the former Prime Minister, shared that they have also agreed to put an end to the violent activities and incidents of atrocity caused by both the government and agitators so as to sort out the differences in a peaceful manner.

He told the journalists that he had opined that if the talks with dissenting parties were furthered by putting aside the demarcation of federal provinces for the time being, it would facilitate the earliest resolution of the issues.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and CPN (UML) leader Bhim Rawal informed that the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during the meeting appealed to one and all to be flexible so as to accelerate the result-oriented talks.

According to UCPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha, the next meeting is scheduled at 6 pm on Wednesday, prior to which the ruling parties would discuss and dwell internally and themselves.

Informing that decision was made to continue the talks, senior leader of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Ashok Rai, said that the meeting did not enter into the issue of delineation of federal states.

Similarly, Co-Chairman of the Sadbhawana Party, Laxman Lal Karna, said that they have put forth the demand that the government should implement the previous decision to provide treatment facility to those injured in Madhes agitation and compensation to the victim’s families to create environment conducive for dialogue, saying that serious discussions were held regarding making the situation of Madhes convenience.

It is said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the meeting expressed his commitment to find a solution through talks after holding serious discussions over the agitators’ demands.

On the occasion, the Morcha had asked the major political parties to make a common view regarding its demands and all the sides expressed commitment to sit for talks with flexibility to find out solution soon, it is learnt.

Present in the meeting were PM and Chairman of the CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal dahal, Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa, Forum (Democratic) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur, senior leader of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Rai, Sadbhawana Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna, among others.
