Human chain formed to protest unofficial blockade

Human ChainKathmandu, Nov 30: Various organizations on Monday staged demonstration against the Indian government’s undeclared blockade, calling for human rights protection and for upholding national self-dependence by forming a human chain.

The human chain formed at both the sides of the road extended from the southern gate of Singha Durbar to United Nations building at Pulchowk through the Maitighar Mandala. The participants from more than 25 organizations including INSEC and Youth Association Nepal joined hands and rallied against the blockade and for human rights.

With the main slogan ‘Oppose blockade, violence and impunity and protect national self-dependence’, politicians, artists, professors, poets, writers, intellectuals, students, former administrators and representatives from a range of professional sectors took part to form human chain.

They carried national flag of Nepal in their hands. CPN (UML) senor leader Jhalanath Khanal, Vice Chairman Yuvraj Gyawali, Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, former Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit, actor Basundhara Bhusal and border expert Budhi Narayan Shrestha among others took part.

On Friday, students formed a mammoth human chain around the Ring Road organized by various educational organizations demanding right to live and study. Nepal has been experiencing humanitarian crisis imposed by India following the promulgation of new constitution in Nepal.  The country has been facing scarcity of not only essential goods but also life saving medicine since the blockade imposed more than two months ago.
