NC to play facilitating role in 3-party meeting

Kathmandu / December 2: The major political parties and agitating Madhesh based parties are holding decisive talks today. It is expected that the political parties will finalize a deal to address the demands of agitating parties. The parties held similar talks on Monday but they could not forged the deal as parties decided to talk in their respective parties about the agreement.

The main opposition Nepali Congress has decided to play a facilitating role in a tri-party meet among the ruling parties, main opposition and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) scheduled for Wednesday.

The meeting of NC office bearers and senior central members held Tuesday to seek a possible way out to the ongoing Madhes agitation ended with the decision of making its presence meaningful in tomorrow’s meeting. The party has decided to present in the meeting with keeping all alternatives open to seek a solution to the existing problems in the country, NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said.

Meanwhile, the party has called on all political parties to help endorse the constitution amendment proposal presented by the party-led previous government at the parliament, stating that the endorsement of the proposal would address almost all demands of the Tarai Madhes.

Major ruling parties CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum ( Democratic), main opposition Nepali Congress and the agitating UDMF are sitting for talks tomorrow which is said be to decisive in addressing the Madhes issues.

The madhesh based parties have been agitating since more than three months demanding to fulfill their demands of amending the new constitution. They have been expressing dissatisfaction over the division of federal states and some provisions related with citizenship. India has been imposing blockade to Nepal pressurizing it to fulfill the demands of Madhesh based political parties as it is believed that the parties have been dancing at the tune of India. RSS
