Government preparing new Greater Lumbini Development Plan

LumbiniKathmandu/ December 3: The government has made preparations to start works on the Greater Lumbini Development new plan.

The preparations are for starting further study regarding the revision of the Lumbini development master plan and its concept as the overall development of Greater Lumbini has been delayed.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ananada Prasad Pokharel, who is also the Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT), said works would be moved ahead with a new plan including reviewing the master plan for the Greater Lumbini Development as the project was being delayed.

The meeting of the LDT Executive Council held at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in Singha Durbar has taken various decisions for the development of the greater Lumbini area in a new manner.

Among the decisions are reviewing the master plan and starting new study on the greater Lumbini concept, further clarifying on the working area of Lumbini and broadening it and amending the related Acts and statutes.

Likewise the Council took decisions regarding reviewing the structure of the organization by integrating the laws and by-laws and addressing the grievances of the employees for formulating the working procedure for programme implementation.

Other decisions include taking necessary initiation for the implementation of a consolidated security system by reviewing the present Lumbini security arrangement and shifting the LDT’s Kathmandu-based to the Head Office, Lumbini within three months.

The Council meeting also decided to constitute a task force under the coordination of the LDT Member Secretary Amit Man Tamang which includes Joint Secretary at the Law Division of the Ministry Sadhuram Sapkota, Trust’s legal advisor Baburam Dahal and Trust’s senior administrative officer Gyanendra Rai as members.

Likewise, the meeting decided to form separate committees to hold talks with the disgruntled employees of the Trust, regarding the overall development of Lumbini and appointment of international expert.

Minister Pokharel chaired the meeting which was attended by LDT vice-chairman Bjhikkhu Nigrodh, Ministry secretary Dinesh Thapaliya, general secretary Sadhuram Sapkota and Member Secretary Tamang. RSS
