Finance Minister urges business community to manage restraint for some time

Bishnu PoudelKathmandu / December 11: Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has called on the business community not to get frustrated by the ongoing economic blockade suffering the country at the hands of neighour.

“The blockade has caused an irreparable loss due to the blockade. Let’s take patience for more few days and not to be panicked by it,” he said while speaking at a programme organised in his honour in the capital Friday. The ongoing Tarai agitation was expected to end soon through talks and consensus.

Former Minister and Nepali Congress lawmaker Balkrishna Khand said primary indications regarding to the government performance were not satisfactory. The Nepali Congress has never incorporated with the government despite sitting in the opposition. Despite support from the opposition, the government failed to work as per the people’s expectations, he said.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the Rupandehi Society has submitted a 12-point memorandum to the Finance Minister seeking an integrated development of Lumbini.

Implementation of a Special Economic Zone in Rupandehi, expedition of task of promoting the Gautam Buddha into a regional airport and developing Lumbini, Devdaha and Tilaurakot into international tourist destinations are among the demands put forth by the Society before the Finance Minister.

The blockade imposed by India immediately after the promulgation of new constitution has been taking heavy toll in national economy. The country has been facing scarcity of goods including lifesaving medicines due to the blockade. It is said that the country may witness double digit inflation and negative growth rate for the first time due to the blockade. RSS
