Human rights magna meet issues 25-point declaration

Human RightsKathmandu / December 11: The seventh Human Rights National Magna Meet-2015 concluded in the capital on Friday issuing a 25-point declaration. The meet this year was organized with the slogan ‘Democracy, human rights and inclusiveness; equal women participation in all sector and level of state’.

The declaration has called for the effective implementation of Nepal’s Constitution, ensuring meaningful participation of women in all sectors and levels of state in federal setups, ending the state of impunity by rendering justice to victim and bringing the perpetrators to book, envisaging 50-50 participation in all sectors by 2030 making entire laws of the country gender sensitive and granting citizenship certificate in the name of mother.

On the occasion, Speaker Onsari Gharti was offered civic felicitation on behalf of the Magna Meet Organizing Committee.

It was shared on the occasion that the Shanta Laxmi Shrestha Women Human Rights Honour Award of Rs 500,000 was instituted. An individual would be honoured every year on the occasion of the magna meet in recognition of the contribution to the women human rights in Nepal.

Speaker Gharti said that the promulgation of the Nepal’s Constitution-2072 BS with the provisions of promoting equity, freedom and gender-friendly environment is a milestone in the sector of human rights. She however said that there is much to do to protect the achievements made so far in human rights from social and political fronts. RSS
