Country will not import agro products within two years: Minister Gajurel

Haribol GajurelKathmandu / December 14: Five journalists covering the agricultural issues in media were honoured in the capital city today.

Agriculture Development Multipurpose Cooperatives Limited felicitated the media persons with Rs 10,000 each for promoting the farmers by writing news stories.

On the occasion, Suvash Karki of BBC Nepali Service, Laxmi Sapkota of Rajdhani Daily, Prakash Adhikari of Kantipur Daily, Bishnu Prasad Neupane of Gorkhapatra Daily and Khyam Prasad Bhujel of Naya Patrika Daily were honoured.

During the programme, Agriculture Development Minister Haribol Gajurel said that country’s development was impossible without development of agriculture.

Likewise, Minister Gajurel claimed that Nepal will not import agricultural products within two years. Currently, Nepal is importing agricultural goods including foodstuffs, dairy products, vegetables, meat items and fish of nearly 131 billion annually.

Also speaking at the programme, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Chiranjibi Nepal asked the banks and financial institutions to increase their investments in the agricultural sector. RSS
