Import of medicinal supplies on rise

medicinesKathmandu / December 15: The import of medicinal supplies have taken pace with the easing of obstructions in other transit routes save Birgunj customs point, said Department of Drug Administration General Director Bal Krishna Khakurel.

He said supply of medicines have resumed from Biratnagar, Sunauli and Nepalgunj transit routes and added that the government’s preparations to purchase medicine on a fast track method was in the final stage so as to avoid the shortage of medicines in government health institutes. The government is set to purchase Rs 200 million worth of medicines to last three months.

Association of Pharmaceuticals Producers of Nepal Vice Chairman Deepak Dahal said the shortage of medicines in the market was not like before with the supply of raw materials from land and air routes.

He added that the raw materials necessary for production of medicines were coming in adequate amount from Sunauli and other customs points.

Drug Dealers Association Chairman Migendra Mahar Shrestha said the import of medicines has increased. He was of the belief that the shortage of medicine in the market would gradually fall with the increment in supply. RSS
