Pokhara / December 16: In a bid to attract domestic tourists in Pokhara, a tourism destination, the Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN) has launched a campaign to invite domestic tourists to partake in upcoming Pokhara Streets Festival.

The festival that will kick off from December 28 to January 1 with a slogan ‘eat, dance and be jolly on the streets’ aims at attracting domestic tourists from various parts of Nepal into the tourist hub.

REBAN Chairman Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai said that as part of the campaign, an interaction would be held at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi today in coordination with industrialists and tourism entrepreneurs there.

“Such festival would be a beneficial in reviving tourism affected by the April 25 earthquake and Indian blockade. We have launched the campaign to revive sluggish tourism,” he said. Bhatatrai added that they would organise press conferences in major cities and various districts including Bhairahawa, Chitwan and Kathmandu as well.

“There is a need for disseminating a message that the tourist hub, Pokhara, has been affected by the quake to the extent that rumours about it has surfaced. So we believe that the festival will attract domestic tourists into the tourist destination for a trip at least for once,” said a local tourism entrepreneur, Chau Bahadur Gurung.

The festival would cover around three kilometers from Shahid Chowk to Dihikopatan. Various entertaining and religious programmes would be organised at Basundhara Park. RSS
