Blacktopping of Kagbeni-Muktinath road begins

RoadParbat / December 19: The blacktopping of Kagbeni-Muktinath road section in Mustang, the district across the Himalaya, has begun.

The seven-kilometer road section linking Kagbeni to historic place Muktinath is the first blacktopping project in the district. The district-based Rural Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project is assisting to upgrade the route.

The blacktopping is expected to complete by the mid of 2017, said District Technical Office’s Engineer Rabindra Tiwari.

The upgrade of the route is estimated to cost Rs 108 million. Though the district has road sections stretching to 250 kilomters, no section has been blacktopped so far. Devotees coming to visit the famous Muktinath Temple here will be beneficial once the route is upgraded. This will help to promote both internal and external tourists to the religious site.

The road connection also increased the number of travelers visiting the district as the district is very popular for apple and Muktinath temple. There was high accident rate in the road due to poor condition of road and over speeding by drivers. RSS
