Despite the legal provision for safe abortion, the Muslim women in the region still believe that abortion is a religious sin.

The women used to visit the health centres secretly for the use of family planning until some years ago but now the couple come together for the selection of types of family planning, Assistant Health Worker of Chakchaki Health Centre Lamxan Sah said.

Likewise, a large number of women visited the free health camp to receive the family planning services conducted on Saturday.

Of the 15 women receiving the family planning service, eight were from the Muslim community and they opted for Norplant, Sah said.

With the increasing consciousness level among the folks, the Muslim women have also opted for various measures of family planning by challenging the traditional social beliefs. RSS
