Wetland area mapping campaign begins

WetlandRupandehi / December 24: The Rupandehi District Forest Office has put in place a campaign to collect objective details of wetland area in order to conserve the land and ensure its proper use at local level.

The District Forest Office is collecting details of forest and wetland located in the public and private areas in the district and making publicity of the importance of wetland at local level.

Office’s Forest Officer Indra Bahadur Parchhain said study was underway regarding wetland located in public and private sphere. Search for other wetlands area is on though three have been already identified, he added.

So far the Gaidahawa lake, Gajedi lake and nanda-Bhauju lake – stretched over around 65 bigaha of land – fall on wetland zone in the district. The campaign to identify other lakes and ponds and enlist them as wetland area is underway.

It is learnt that Nepal’s Ramsar zone is enlisted wetland area in the world where the Jagadishpur lake of Kapilvastu district adjacent to Rupandehi district is also located. RSS
