DPM Thapa complains over not providing support to country by private sector

Kathmandu / January 5: Deputy prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Thapa, has complained that the private sector has not cooperated to the government at a time when the country has been facing problems.

At an interaction organised by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce here today, DPM Thapa said, “Although the private sector had supported in the border blockade imposed in 2045 BS, but this time the industry sector did not support the government in such situation.”

He, however, said that the people have supported the government in the problem.

Stating that the government has taken the relations between China and India ahead in a new way, the DPM said, “Demanding rights of transit with India is indo-centric. It is wrong. So such treaty should also be signed with China.”

He added that the government breaking conventional mindset was preparing to move ahead with a transit treaty with China, he said that economic diplomacy should be improved in a constructive and moral way.

Saying that it was wrong to restrict supplies into Nepal under the pretext of the closure of Raxaul border point, he stressed on the need for businessmen to improve their mistakes instead of getting away with their responsibility by blaming others.

Also at the event, Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) Chairman Rajesh Kaji Shrestha pointed out the need for moving ahead by diversifying trade, adding that the government should take appropriate initiatives to sort out challenges in business sector.

Likewise, NCC former chairman Surendra Bir Malakar, Gas Entrepreneurs Association Chairman Shiva Prasad Ghimire and Federation of Grill and Steel Fabricator’s Association Nepal Chairman Mohan Katuwal said that business sector is reeling under a shortage of fuel, following the Indian blockade and energy crisis and that the government should do the needful to address the matter.
