Parliamentary committee directs government to immediately start construction of Nijgadh airport
Kathmandu / January 17: The International Labour Relations Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has issued directives to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to immediately proceed with the construction of the proposed Nijgadh International Airport in Bara .
A meeting of the Committee today directed the Ministry to go with the land acquisition process, management of the settlement to be displaced by the land acquisition and to prepare the construction site at a war-footing level.
The government had earlier proposed this project as the second International Airport of the country after the existing sole Tribhuvan International Airport. Budget for the project was being allocated since the last fiscal. So far Rs one billion has been allocated in the past two fiscal years.
The Committee directed the Ministry of Soil Conservation and Ministry of Population to cooperate with the Tourism Ministry to launch the construction work on time.
The South Korean-based Company LMW Company some six years back conducted the detailed feasibility study of the project and as per its report, the construction cost was estimated to be around Rs 35.51 billion. RSS
