Fanko keeps you on the edge of your seat

Katmandu / January 22: Trailers of Nepali movies have deceived the audience often. There are numerous such examples, but not Fanko’s trailer. Well shot, apt storyline, praiseworthy acting and good suspense make Fanko a good watch. Well placed songs and long range camera shots are equally appealing. A jeep being followed by a car, clean rivers, and Prithvi Highway are brilliantly captured by cinematographer Purushottam Pradhan.

Bhakti Thapa (Saugat Malla) is a driver working for Dhamala (Keshav Bhattarai), a businessman. He is assigned to deliver one crore rupees to a politician in Kathmandu. The movie narrates obstacles Thapa faces while making a journey from Pokhara to Kathmandu. When Buddhabir Rai (Dayahang Rai) comes to know that Thapa is travelling alone with such a huge amount of money, Rai chases Thapa with an intention to loot. Lily (Priyanka Karki) assists him in the cat-mouse race. This ‘catch me if you can’ race between the two is fun to watch. The journey of a car following a jeep is filled with fun and suspense. Duping and action scenes make the movie worth the watch.

Malla and Keki Adhikari as husband and wife make perfect on screen couple — with their innocent appearance, Nepal’s western region’s accent, and with their love for each other. Their dance moves on Malai America Yehi make the audience laugh out loud. Rai and Karki are also best in their roles. When Rai stammers, viewers become desperate for him to complete the sentence so that the suspense unfolds, one cannot keep patience any longer. Karki is bold in her role as the villain, her anger, frustrations and love make her a good actor.

The dramatic irony is maintained at its best. You pray for certain things to not happen, yet that is exactly what happens. Your heart races and you question — what if? While this lingers, all you do is watch with your fingers crossed.

The movie is able to keep the audience on the edge of their seats as the story moves ahead. Anup Baral too has acted remarkably. But to know what his character is, you have to watch the movie.
