Over 50 % children suffering from acute malnutrition

Birgunj / January 24: Over fifty per cent children from socially and economically backward communities in Parsa, a district in the central Tarai, have been found suffering from acute malnutrition.

A study held carried out by equitable development hurdles analysis programme implemented to identity obstructions to attain equitable development in 10 extremely poor and backward settlements ended with this finding.

Bagahi, Bahuaridari, Bikhampur, Gadi, Lahawarthakari, Nirmalbasti, Bhiswa, Parshurampur, Tulsiwarwa and Shiwarwa were the village where the programme was implemented. Lack of sanitation awareness and pure drinking water facility, poverty, domestic violence, practice of child labour, dowry system and child marriage, lack of accessibility to health services are among the obstructions to attain social justice and equitable development in these backward communities.

Besides, one fourth population in these villages are unaware of consequences of open-defecation.

There are actually many such data that highlight the obstacles to equitable development, District Development Committee Parsa Information Office and resource person of the Programme Shambhu Khuswaha said, “Plan and programme should target to remove such obstacles and challenges.” RSS
