NC adopts provision of no more than two terms for party president

Kathmandu / January 25: The Nepali Congress has put in place a provision barring the party president and the district president to file candidacy for a third term in office. However, this provision does not apply in the case of the joint-president at the time of making adjustment of the party.

The party stated that the provision stipulated in Clause 49 (17) would be applicable in the case of persons completing one term as the president of the district working committee in the party’s 11th general convention and also completing the term after being elected president from the 12th general convention.

The Clause 49(17) of the Nepali Congress Party Statute states that the President of the party’s central working committee and the district working committee shall not file candidacy to the posts exceeding two terms continuously.

The party’s central working committee meeting held at the party central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur today has suspended the provision made in the Clause 4(13) in accordance with the Clause (50) of the party statute regarding removing difficulties for conducting the party’s 13th general convention and implementation of the statute. The Clause 4(13) is related to the party’s active membership and associated provisions.

The Nepali Congress is holding its 13th general convention in Kathmandu on March 3-5. Meanwhile, the meeting also urged all the political parties including the agitating ones to extend cooperation and goodwill to the NC for carrying out its programmes related to the general convention in a peaceful manner.

Likewise, according to party spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu, the meeting urged the government to ensure law and order. It also expressed happiness over the passage of the constitution amendment bill with revisions in the Legislature-Parliament. The bill was tabled in the parliament by the NC-led erstwhile government.

The Nepali Congress has likewise urged all sides concerned to remove the obstructions caused in the supplies of essential goods at some places near the border.

It also demanded that the government to remove the delay in rescuing the people rendered homeless due to the earthquake who are in great difficulty and are bearing the winter chill. The NC has protested what it called the government’s policy and wont of working in a unilateral and opaque manner in the reconstruction task.

The meeting also protested the ‘irresponsible’ act of the government of remaining completely negligent towards checking the soaring market price of goods and black marketeering. RSS
