SC issues show cause order over appointment of aides by PM, ministers

Supreme CourtKathmandu / February 3: The Supreme Court Wednesday has issued a show cause notice to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) for hiring advisors and aides for the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers.

The bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha Wednesday directed the OPMCM to present the rationale behind appointment of advisors and aides to the ministers before the court within the next 15 days, Court Joint Spokesperson Bishwa Raj Poudel said.

The order was in response to a writ petition filed by advocates Kalpit Parajuli and Anand Koirala on January 18, accusing the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers of hiring advisors and aides going against the provision of law. The writ has named the OPMCM and the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Federal Affairs as defendants. Such appointment was the misuse of the state coffers and also erodes people’s trust over the government, the petitioners argue. RSS
