NC’s Regional Committee and GC reps elections on Friday

Nepali CongressKathmandu / February 4: The Nepali Congress is holding its Regional Working Committee and General Convention Representatives’ elections on Friday in the run up to the forthcoming 13th General Convention.

The election was determined in line with the 240 electoral constituencies which were in practice during the time of the Constituent Assembly elections. The party has mobilized election officers in all the electoral centres to hold the elections.

The election will be held in 220 constituencies in the majority of the districts save Bara, said Congress Central Election Committee Coordinator Radheshyam Adhikari while speaking to the National News Agency (RSS).

The election in districts with a single electoral constituency and 20 other constituencies where local level election is yet to take place due to technical hassles would be held on February 8.

The party has withheld the elections in Bara citing technical problems but it is assumed the deferment is taking place due to Madhes-centric parties’ ongoing agitation.

The NC on January 29 held the elections in villages, wards and towns. The party will hold regional convention and general convention representatives’ election on February 5 and District Convention on February 8, as per the schedule made public. Coordinator Adhikari said the Regional Convention and District Convention will take place on the same day in districts with single electoral constituency.

Among the party’s top brass, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel and woman leader Sujata Koirala have already announced their bid for party’s central President in the General Convention slated to take place from March 3-6 in Kathmandu. RSS
