Election commission holds discussions with small parties

Election CommissionKathmandu / February 5: The Election Commission here today has held discussions with small political parties about the draft bill-2072 BS related to unify the laws about political parties.

On the occasion, Janajagaran Party and Chure Bhawar Party urged the commission to remove the provision of providing election and party operation expenditure from the government treasury to the parties which garners at least 1.5 per cent votes only.

The draft comprises the provisions related to organizational structure, membership, working committee under central and federal structure, qualification of the office bearers, and operation of treasury of the political party among others.

Acting chief commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said that they were holding discussions with concerned bodies before tabling the draft bill in the parliament.

The commission source said that 11 parties which had lost legal status were scrapped. As many as 168 parties were registered in the commission. RSS
