New bird species sighted in Chitwan

Ratnanagar / February 6: A new bird species has been found in Chitwan with Bird Education Society – Chitwan’s immediate past Chairman and bird specialist Basu Bidari corroborating the fact.

The bird named Grate Height Fronted was found at the banks of the Rapti River, lying a kilometre south of Chitwan’s Head Office, Kasara.

Nature guides Hemanta Darai and Ustav Jung Thapa – in course of a tour five day ago – came across the new species of the bird and took its photograph.

A team which included bird specialist Bidari revisited the site to verify the claim on February 4. The Great Height Fronted had been sighted in Nepal some 12 years ago at the eastern section of the Koshi river.

Nepal is currently home to 875 species of recorded birds. As per a data made public recently, marshland area at the district’s natural park has 11,260 birds of 50 different species. Bidari said the number is an increase by two thousand with three new species of birds as compared to previous year. RSS
