Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita named Nat Geo’s People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year
Kathmandu / February 5: Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita, who was in the National Geographic’s list of 10 Adventurers of the Year 2016, has won National Geographic 2016 People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year.
National Geographic honours outstanding individuals with their remarkable achievements in exploration, adventure sports, conservation, or humanitarianism through the votes in the official website.
Sherpa was born in Khumjung village in Solukhumbu. Having been brought up in close proximity to the mountains, she says that her hobbies have always been related with trekking and mountaineering, which eventually developed interest in her to travel and explore new places.
She has ascended Everest, K2, Nangpai Gosum II, Ama Dablam, and many other peaks in and outside Nepal.
Shepa, in an interview with National Geography, stated that she is currently working on a foundation to provide opportunities to attain education to women and girls. (Source: The Kathmandu Post)
