Third medal to Nepal in SAG

SAG LogoYubraj Pandey / Gauhati (India): Nepali player Saroj Yadav has won bronze medal in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) being held at Gauhati, India. With this, Nepal won a total of three medals in the SAG.

Yadav won bronze medal in the weight lifting under the category of 65 kg. Nepali player Bikash Thapa has also won the silver medal in weight lifting on Saturday in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games (SAG). Thapa bagged the medal in weight lifting under the category of 62 kg.

Earlier, Devi Chaudhary of Nepal Police won the bronze medal in the weight lifting under the category of 53 kg.

Likewise, Nepal’s Arahanta Kishore Singh has entered the quarterfinal in the squash tournament. Singh entered the quarterfinal by defeating Bangladesh’s Mohammad Sopan Farwez in the game held at the City Country Squash Hall of Gauhati. Singh will play with Pakistani player Nasir Yekwal in the quarterfinal.

Similarly, Amrit Thapamagar was defeated by Bangladesh’s Mohammad Suman. Furthermore, Krishna Thapa was defeated by India’s Josna Chinappa and Bhawana Sunar by Pakistan’s Mariyatur Pakiujir on Saturday under women’s category of squash.

Four men and three women have taken part in squash from Nepal. Meanwhile, Chairman of Nepal Squash and Racket Association Kishor Maharjan has announced to provide Rs 100,000 on his own to the Nepali players if they won the gold medals in squash. Likewise, he has announced to provide Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively to those getting second and the third position.

Likewise, two Nepali swimmers taking part in the 12th SAG have made the national records.

Swimmers Sophiya Shah and Gaurika Singh have maintained the new records by breaking the old ones in the swimming tournament held in Gauhati on Saturday.

Sophiya Singh maintained the new record of 2 minutes 13.81 seconds in 200 meters freestyle, breaking the earlier record of Gaurika Singh.

Likewise, Gaurika Singh managed the new record in 100 meters butterfly by completing the distance in 2 minutes 14.68 seconds. RSS
