TRC submits interim report
Kathmandu / February 7: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission presented an interim report to the government, detailing its works, challenges and future plan, on Sunday.
The Commission held a press conference and reminded that it completed a year of its establishment and that it had presented a report on its works to the government.
The report in form of advice is essentially conclusions drawn from interaction with conflict victims, civil society and journalists from 52 districts across the country.
Commission Chairman Surya Kiran Gurung spoke of questions being raised by those who didn’t have knowledge of the transitional justice system as to the need for the Commission to exist.
“There are many incidents during the insurgency of those facing violence from the sides of state, rebels and public and falling victim of injustice,” he said. “Fake victims have received relief as the peace committee based in the districts have failed to work properly,” Gurung further elaborated, adding, “So we will reach conclusion after receiving full information on the real incidents.”
He said the Commission was set to open the floor for complaints from the victims. “When we announce floor for complaints, we will see that employees of the security organs, party leaders among others are the victims.”
Commission’s Spokesperson Madhavi Bhatta said a draft related to the Commission’s regulation has been prepared and sent to the parliament.
Bhatta stressed that as investigation related to rape and sexual harassment on women during the insurgency fell under the Commission’s jurisdiction, it will stride to give them justice. She stressed on need to amend an act for law on Commission’s jurisdiction. RSS
