Lamichhane honoured with the Highest Award of World Scouts

scautKathmandu / February 7: The world scout organization has decided to honor advisor of Nepal Scouts and former chief commissioner Shree Ram Lamichhane with the superlative award of the organization BRONZE WOLF. This award is given in recognition of outstanding services by an individual to the World Scout Movement.

Mr Lamichhane is the first Nepali to receive this award in the 80-years history of the award established in 1935 AD.

The Bronze Wolf award has so far been awarded to 346 distinguished VIPs, including founder of scouting initiative Lord Baden Powell/Lady Baden Powell, King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, President of the Philippines Fidel Ramos, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Grand Duke of Luxembourg SAR Jean H.M. King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Bin Aziz, H.M.King Bhumibol of Thaialand among others for their remarkable contribution towards scouting.

Lamichhane was awarded the Bronze Wolf for his contribution in establishing Baden-Powell Peak (which was renamed after Lord Baden-Powell from ‘Urkema mountain range- 5,890 Meter-Rasuwa’ in 2007 on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the establishment of the scout movement in the world.) The trail leading to the Peak is also named the Baden-Powell trail.

The World Scouts has also recognized his dedication and contribution towards the qualitative development of the scouting movement in Nepal in his tenure as Chief Commissioner from 2004 to 2014, and his contribution for Regional and World Scouting. Mr. Lamichhane has already served as the first Vice-Chairman of Asia Pacific Region and now serving as the chairman of Regional Awards Committee for Asia Pacific Region of the World Scout organization. He has been associated with the scouting movement for the last 52 years.

He is the first person to begin scouts life as a Tenderfoot (The first level of Scouting) and passing through all levels of scouting positions to be the Chief Commissioner of Nepal Scouts.

Born in a small village in Parbat district of Nepal, Mr. Lamichhane joined Nepal Scouts in 2020 BS as a member (Tenderfoot). He has worked as District Commissioner of Lalitpur Scouts, Training Commissioner, International Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and as Chief Commissioner of Nepal Scouts. He was elected as an executive committee member of Asia Pacific region and re-elected for the same committee as the First Vice Chairman in 2012.

He has also been awarded with Golden Rhino Award, the highest award of Nepal scouts. Further, recognizing his valuable contribution in the development of Scouting in the Asia-Pacific Region and the world, he has been awarded the highest Scouting award from many countries in the Region. He is also honored by the President of Finland with the country’s National Award. RSS
