NHRC begins investigation into Rangeli incident

NHRCKathmandu / February 15: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has started investigation into the killing of three persons in police firing at Rangeli and Dayaniya in Morang on January 21.

Issuing a statement on Monday, NHRC acting secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai said that the investigation team inspected the incident site and enquired Morang Chief District Officer, chiefs of security agencies and witnesses in connection with the incident.

The team comprised NHRC spokesperson Mohana Ansari, member Govinda Sharma Poudyal, a regional director and an officer.

Draupadi Devi Chaudhary of Rangeli-4, Mahadev Rishidev of Baranga-2 and Shibu Majhi of Dayaniya-9 were killed when police opened fires in course of the demonstrations enforced by then agitating groups protesting some provisions of the new constitution. RSS
