Parliament session meaningful: Speaker

ParliamentKathmandu / February 17: Speaker Onsari Gharti has said the parliament’s ongoing session was meaningful to lead Nepal’s constitution towards the implementation phase.

The Parliament has initiated a process of drafting new acts and laws needed to execute the new constitution. Speaking at a press meet at New Baneshwor, Wednesday, Speaker Gharti thanked the political parties for their support and cooperation in running the parliament session.

The ongoing session of the Legislature-Parliament that kicked off on October 2, 2015 is ending tonight. In this period of 41 days, the parliament held 44 meetings. The same parliament session elected the new President, Vice President, Prime Minister and Speaker after the promulgation of the new constitution.

The first meeting endorsed the Interim Work Procedure of the Legislature-Parliament-2072 BS. Six out of 38 bills introduced at the parliament were passed.

The endorsement of the Bill relating to the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structure remained as a remarkable achievement of the House.

When asked about her experience as the Speaker in the past five months, she said support and cooperation from the political parties made her duty easier.

The first meeting of the upcoming parliament session is expected to bring in the Parliament regulations, the Speaker said. RSS
