More unregistered electric rickshaws on the road

e-rickshawDamak / February 28: The number of electric rickshaws plying the roads in and around the Damak area of the district has shot up but many are yet to acquire permission.

The law requires electric rickshaw drivers to get permission from the Transport Management Office. The lack of concern on part of the regulating body on registration has been a cause of a surge in the number of electric rickshaws.

Around a thousand electric rickshaws are currently in operation after making debut last year. The rise in the number of such rickshaws continues unabated.

Damak Chamber of Commerce Chairman Prakash Prasai said the electric rickshaw should come into operation only after completing legal process.

The electric rickshaw has been a cause of mismanagement and chaos on the roads inviting accidents, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Rajan Limbu of the Area Police Office.

Although the number of electric rickshaws in use in the district may surpass thousand by a far margin, only 500 are currently registered with the Transport Management Office. RSS
