HPV vaccine against cervical cancer in Kaski

happy-girlsPokhara / February 29: The District Public Health Office, Kaski, has started the inoculation programme of human papilloma virus known as HPV to the young girls of up to 10 years in two municipalities and 32 VDCs in Kaski district from Sunday against cervical cancer.

Vaccination Officer Yek Narayan Lamsal of the Office said that the campaign launched aiming at protecting the young girls from the cervical cancer would continue till March 13 and would be conducted in different areas in separate time frame.

The Ministry of Health has launched this programme in Kaski and Chitwan district from this fiscal year as the trial. It is said that some 6,500 young girls studying up to grade six and 200 others of the same age remaining out of school would be given the vaccine.

As per the management, the young girl students would be inoculated in 348 different schools while the girls remaining out of school’s net would be given the HPV vaccine in 55 health institutions.

Senior Public Health Officer Sagar Prasad Ghimire said that the vaccine is too expensive and each one vaccine costs some Rs 10,000.

The Office said that as high as 300 health workers would be mobilized to make the campaign a success. RSS
