13th SAARCLAW conference kicks off; President inaugerates th conference
Kathmandu / March 5: The 13th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Law (SAARCLAW) and 10th SAARC Chief Justices’ Conference, 2016 kicked off here in the capital city today.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurated the two-day conference amid a special programme.
The conference is jointly organised by the Supreme Court of Nepal and SAARCLAW with the slogan ‘Connecting SAARC through Law, Justice, Good Governance and Development”.
On the occasion, the President handed the letters of commemoration developed in memory of those justices of India, Pakistan and Nepal, who made a special contribution to establish and run the SAARCLAW, to their families.
SAARCLAW is an association of the legal communities of the SAARC countries comprising judges, lawyers, academicians, law teachers, public officers and a host of other law-related persons.
The commemoration letters were given to the kin of the late Bharat Raj Upreti, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal and General Secretary of the SAARCLAW, the late Umesh Chandra Banerjee, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and founder member of SAARCLAW and the late Nasim Hasan Shah, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Patron of the SAARCLAW.
Over 350 legal practitioners, Justices and law professors– including 151 from Nepal– from the SAARC countries excluding the Maldives partook in the conference. RSS
